We collect information you provide when registering or using our platform. This includes:
- Account details: your full name (including name title/prefix such as Mr., Dr., or Prof.), email address, phone number, department, faculty, and graduation or admission year
- Registration category: whether you are a student, staff member, alumni, or Friend of FCE Obudu, along with any associated institutional identifiers (matric number, staff ID)
- Profile information: biography, profile photo, cover image, professional headline, and social links (all optional)
- Forum activity: threads you create, posts and replies you submit, and posts you have liked within the Discussion Forum
- Usage data: pages visited, search terms entered, and content interactions, used to improve the platform
- Device information: browser type and IP address, collected for security purposes only
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information solely to operate and improve the FCE Obudu platform:
- To create, display, and manage your public profile within the FCE Obudu community, including your name title and registration category
- To operate the Discussion Forum — including displaying your authored threads and posts, recording likes, and enabling moderation by administrators
- To process subscription payments via Paystack — we never store card details ourselves
- To send notifications about events, news, announcements, forum replies, and activity on your profile
- To enforce community guidelines and prevent misuse, including moderation of forum content
- To generate anonymised analytics that help us improve the platform
3. Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. Your information is shared only in the following limited circumstances:
- Public profile: your name, department, bio, and profile photo are visible to all visitors unless you set your profile to private
- Payment processor: Paystack receives the data needed to complete transactions; their privacy policy governs that data
- Legal requirements: we may disclose data if required by Nigerian law or a valid court order
4. Cookies
We use cookies only for essential platform functionality:
- Session cookies: keep you logged in during your visit; expire when you close your browser
- CSRF tokens: protect every form submission from cross-site request forgery attacks
- Preference cookies: remember lightweight settings such as your display preferences
We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking cookies.
5. Advertisements
Advertisements shown on this platform are served directly from our own ad system — no third-party tracking scripts are injected into your browsing session.
Advertisements are selected based on general community relevance, not personal profiling. Ad visibility on specific profiles may be adjusted at admin discretion for institutional or content-appropriateness reasons.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account remains active. If you request account deletion:
- Your profile, posts, and personal information will be permanently removed within 30 days
- Anonymised, non-identifiable usage statistics may be retained for platform improvement
- Payment records are retained as required by Nigerian financial regulations

7. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data:
- Passwords are hashed using bcrypt with a cost factor of 12 — we never store plain-text passwords
- Payments are handled entirely by Paystack, which is PCI-DSS compliant; we never see or store card numbers
- Forms are protected by CSRF tokens to prevent cross-site request forgery
- Data in transit is encrypted via HTTPS (TLS)
No system is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.
8. Your Rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction: update inaccurate or incomplete information via your profile settings at any time
- Deletion: request that your account and all associated data be permanently removed
- Objection: object to how we process your data for specific purposes
